Beginning Ngoni
For new musicians or anyone who feels they have “failed” at music in the past or have ‘missed the boat’ and really want to learn to make beautiful sound, this is for you! Together we will explore the fundamentals in a non-traditional way. Uniquely tailored to your needs, I offer exercises, melodies, and playful ways to explore and deepen into your own relationship to the instrument and to your unique voice.

I am so very thankful to Jahanara for introducing me to a ngoni. It was in hearing her play and sing on her instruments that captured my intrigue and curiosity. Each instrument she plays and makes is beautifully crafted and designed. I’ve watched how her imagination brings all the parts to fruition. When I discovered Jahanara was making one for a friend I asked if she would consider constructing one for me. It was sheer joy picking out the gourd and looking at the suggested wood for the neck and pegs. Every part is made with such care and genuine gratitude. I was involved as much as I wanted and I also left details to the trusted hands and imagination of Jahanara. Every detail is a work of art. I am so pleased with my ngoni and enjoying playing. In gratitude for the hands that produce these exquisite ngonis.
